For as long as I can remember, achieveing and keeping clear skin has been a struggle for me, seemingly out of reach alltogether- like some magical unicorn I would never be able to find.
I can remember daydreaming about what it would be like to have a plump, radiant, and clear complection as early as my pre teens. My stepmom knew I struggled and she so thoughtfully would take me in for regular facials at that time. I always felt so pampered, and it gave me hope that maybe clear skin wasn’t so out of reach afterall. I still didn’t have crystal clear skin, but I knew it was possible with some consistency.
Fast forward a couple of decades, a marriage, a couple career changes, interstate moves, and add a few young kids, and as you can imagine, my skin hasn’t been my top priority. Because of that, and since the birth of my twins over 4 years ago, my skin has suffered more than ever, and this year I’ve been making changes and making time to choose skincare as self-care. It’s been a challenge, but it is so necessary.
Vibrance Medical Spa in Auburn, California
A couple of months ago, I was given the opportunity to visit a local Medical Spa here in Auburn, California : Vibrance Medical Spa . Not only does Vibrance offer skincare services, but they also provide massages (stone, deep tissue, lymphatic etc.), non surgical procedures, laser hair removal, cool sculpting and more.
For my visit, I was treated to a HydraFacial, with esthetician Chantal. I wasn’t asked to provide any of my services or a review in exchange, but I enjoyed and benefited from the process so much that I couldn’t help but share my experience with you!
When I first arrived at Vibrance Medical Spa , I was greeted by the friendly front of house staff. I checked in, and was asked to take a seat in their beautiful lobby, and Chantal would come grab me when it was time.
Once greeted by Chantel, she walked me down a short hall and into our private room. The room was dimly lit, with soothing music playing, and decorated in calming, neutral decor. I instantly felt welcome in this space and Chantel helped set my social anxiety at ease with her friendly demeanor. She showed me around the room, handed me a towel-like robe to put on, and instructed me to get comfortable on the treatment table/bed while she stepped out.
When she came back in the room, Chantel explained the four steps of the HydraFacial, showed me the machine and how it works, and asked if I had any questions (she was very knowledgeable and thorough so I didn’t have any questions left unanswered.)
After the introduction, she gave me some information on what products would be best for my specific skin type (oily) and my facial began.
As the facial started, Chantel started cleansing my skin with the HydraFacial machine. This first step uses Vortex technology, so the spinning action of the tip of the tool exfoliated the top layer of skin. This helped to open the pores up and slough off dead skin cells, which Chantel explained helps to make the product used in the treatment more effective by giving it a better opportunity to absorb into the clean skin. I loved the feeling of this tool, it felt like my congested skin was getting the deep cleaning it needed!
After Chantel effectively cleansed my skin, she then moved on to step two, which used the same tip to add salicylic acid and glycolic acid to the skin. She explained that these, in combination, help to get rid of any excess dirt and debris left in my now open pores, and that they are effective in helping to treat the pores to treat and prevent acne. My skin is very acne prone so I really appreciated this step!
The third part of this four part HydraFacial is extraction. I don’t know about you, but this part fascinates me. I’m one of those weirdos that likes pimple popping videos, so I wish I could’ve watched this in action! This step used a vacuum like suction to pull blackheads and other impurities from the skin. Like I said before, my skin is very congested, so this was one of the main reasons I was so excited about getting my HydraFacial! And, in case you’re wondering, this step was painless. It almost felt like a little fish sucking on the skin. Weird analogy, but hey- that’s what it felt like!
Step Four, the Final Step
For the grand finale of the HydraFacial experience, the piece de resistance, Chantel applied a combination of enzymes to my skin to provide hydration and detox the skin. Antioxidant, peptide, and hyaluronic acid formulas helped to make my skin plump and radiant! She also used the tool on my lips, and I could feel the hydration being restored instantly!
We closed my facial with some Red Light therapy, which helps the skin to produce collagen and minimize the look of fine lines and redness.
I thoroughly enjoyed my entire experience at Vibrance Medical Spa. The staff was welcoming & professional, and the spa is just gorgeous, and they also have a makeup counter I can’t wait to check out more!
I saw instant results from my HydraFacial. Chantel told me to be sure to stay out of the direct sun as much as possible for the few days following, as the microdermabrasion in step one would make my skin more sensitive to sunburn. I did as directed and my skin was fine. I saw continued improvements in my skin up to a week following my treatment, and am still seeing clear skin over a month later!
I would definitely consider this deep cleaning treatment every other month to a couple times per year if you are prone to congested skin and acne like I am!
